End of Quarter Announcements

On Friday, October 12, Precalculus will have a MCT covering lessons 2.1 through 2.3.
On Friday, October 12, Calculus will have a skills test on derivatives. 100 points.

Make-up Test will be given Tuesday, October 16, 2012. If you have missed a test or want to improve your grade please let me know by Monday, October 15, 2012. The quarter is over on October 17, 2012.

Complete any on-line assignments you wish considered by Sunday, October 14, 2012.

Open House

Open House tonight. Picture day is next Tuesday. You must bring money or pictures will not be printed.

Test Thursday for Precalculus, Calculus and Algebra 1.

Tutoring on Wednesdays. Last week only two students attended.

Mr. Helm has Internet available in his room everyday from 3:15PM until 7:00 PM. Only a few students have taken this opportunity to do their homework after school.

Algebra 1 assignments are due Thursday. 50 points. Sections 2.1 through 2.10. I will leave them posted  until Thursday.
Test on Chapter 2 is on Thursday.  I am available on Wednesday after school.

I regret that I will not tutor this Wednesday. I am attending a funeral. Due to a faculty meeting I cannot find a substitute. I am sorry for this inconvenience.

ROOM 247 is available everyday for Internet access and a great place to get homework completed.

MATH TUTORING available Monday in Mrs. Buxton's room and on Wednesdays in my room. I know Mr. Bloom and Ms. Young are also available. Check with them for day and time. If you are struggling get some help before your test.



ALG 1
If you are having Internet issues, please take advantage of the after school Internet available everyday from 3:15 until 7PM in Room 247.  This is a tremendous opportunity for you. I have noticed that most of you have not completed the on-line quizzes and tests. I will be giving you a grade based on your performance and effort. This is an opportunity to improve your content knowledge and your grade. Consider using the Internet at school to complete assignments. Behavior is improving. Keep focusing on your purpose. Mrs. Buxton tutors on Monday and I tutor on Wednesday.


Pre-Calculus and Calculus
I will begin posting your grades. Please keep up with on-line as well as e-text book homework. We are getting accustomed to the digital resources. I allow you to answer questions twice. You must pass each homework to get credit.

Internet available in Room 247 every school day from 4PM until 7PM. Please make arrangements to utilize this resource if you are having difficulties connecting at home.

Tutoring is available in my room 250 Wednesdays from 3:15PM until 4PM. Only 6 students have utilized this opportunity.

Calculus and Precalculus.
Please check the assignments link for text assignments to be completed with pencil and paper. May I suggest you use the on-line homework as a self check and the text book for in class questions.

I will be updating INOW this week. I think the classes are now fairly stable. Please retain any graded papers as grades will not transfer with you. I have a hard copy but if it is recorded differently than your paper you will need to save your documents.

First Week of School

The first week of school was challenging for all. It seems every student has many we sites to become familiar with. I have decided to continue to post on my blog until I blog for you to go to another site.
Most of you have a text book and digital resources. If you do not I will give you login information next week.

There have been many issues concerning the digital books and the lap-tops. I cannot assist you. Not only am I not trained to assist you, I do not have administrative privileges. Use the web site support and support available on campass. Pearson has requested that you completely shut down your computer when you go to bed so that all changes will be made before school.

Everyone will have a test this week. If you have been putting off homework it is time to catch up.

Advanced Algebra.

There is so much confusion.  You are required to complete the textbook assignments posted on the link to Assignments. I will be grading them on your test day for completeness and accuracy. You must have an assignment for your homework check for each lesson labeled with the assignment. I have been working them with you in class. I have posted all the assignments I will check on this weeks assignment linked to this blog. Beginning Monday, 8/27, you will need to preview the lesson by using the digital book as needed. Read the lesson.You may read it and access the videos and interactive problems as you read the lesson prior to class. I will reteach the important concepts and provide help as needed. I did forget to collect the POW so please have them ready to turn in on Monday.

Calculus
We will be completing the Precal review this week. Please ask specific questions in class this week. I would like you to download the note-cards and print them this week. Save them in a 3-prong folder or binder and place a blank page for notes. These note cards(labeled numerically) will help you prepare for the AP test. You can find this on the MYMathLab site on the document sharing tab.

Precalculus

I am pleased with your progress and your willingness to work so many word problems.
Congrats to the Lee students who have embraced the graphing calculators.
You will be expected to write and equation of a line and discuss slope as the average rate of change.

I am happy that many of you were able to change into my other classes so the 6th period is now much less than 44. Anyone who can should consider moving to a morning class as they are still less than 20.

We are beginning school on August 20, 2012. I am excited and ready to start. You will not be issued your e-books until we are able to give you user names and passwords. I will be starting your courses in the old fashioned way. You will need to bring your lap-tops charged to my classroom everyday. There is no charging station and no time for you to do this in class.

I posted assignments linked to this blog for this week. ALEX assignments and then open the assignments tab. When you have access to the e-books and on-line resources you will have customized assignments. If you do not have Internet access you will need to arrange a conference with me and your parent so that we can explore options available for you.

Hello....We will be coming up to speed on our new computers and e-books. Math has not changed only some ways that we will read a text book, find assignments and assess mastery. It will be a big change for some of us and patience will be our motto. I am leaving these links to the old text book until we have the new system fully operationa.  I will update assignments on ALEX until we are used to the new system.   I am looking forward to seeing my old students and meeting new students. Enjoy the last free weekend without math homework. Please bring paper, pencil, and your charged computer everyday. There will be no time or opportunity for charging.

Make-up Day

Quarter 4 Make-up will be after school on May 11, 2012 at 3:15 until 5:00PM. All students who have missed a test are required to make up test grades at this time. Students who have not missed a test make take this test to improve average.

     I hope you are rested and ready to work hard this quarter. I have posted your assignmnets though January. Please utilize videos, hotmath, textbook on-line, and explore learning to enhance learning and to keep up if you are absent. Please do your best to not schedule appointments during math class. We are not idle and many students are not taking the initiative to make-up content.
     The Quarter 3 Make-Up is on March 9, 2012 after school. Please be sure to keep that time open if you need to make-up a test or want to improve your grade. Nine weeks is ample notice and I make exceptions only for students who have missed tests and have emergencies. Plan your transprotation now.
